Why does birth time need correcting? ▾

Solar time, not clock time. In BaZi the hour pillar, and the day pillar near midnight, follow where the Sun actually was. Clock time is set for a whole time zone, so at your birthplace the Sun may cross the meridian earlier or later than clock noon. We use the longitude of your birthplace to correct for that, and can also add the equation of time (from −14 min in February to +16 min in November).

Daylight saving time is taken from your browser’s time zone database for the birth date, so summer-time births are converted to standard time automatically.

Whichever basis you pick, the “Pillars under each time basis” panel shows every combination side by side. If they differ, choose the one closest to the time on your birth certificate.

Everything is calculated in your browser. Your details are never sent to a server; if “Remember” is on they are kept only in this browser’s storage. Privacy policy ·

About lucky items

Different traditions each have their own idea of what brings you luck: BaZi points to the element your chart needs, Western astrology to your sign’s colours and stones, numerology to your numbers, Nine Star Ki and feng shui to directions. This page brings them together and highlights where several systems agree.

How it is calculated

The BaZi suggestions start from your chart’s balancing element — usually an element your chart lacks or one that supports a weak Day Master — and translate it into colours, numbers, directions, seasons and materials using the classic five-element correspondences. Your Sun sign, Life Path number and Nine Star Ki star add their own traditional associations.

Using it

Lucky colours and numbers are a light-hearted part of almost every fortune tradition. Treat them as a playful way to choose an outfit or a desk plant, not as something that changes outcomes.

Common question

Why do different systems give different colours? Each tradition builds its list from its own logic — elements, planets or numbers — so disagreement is normal. The items that several systems share are marked, and those are the ones readers usually notice first.
