Some friends feel familiar from the first conversation; others take years to understand and turn out to be the ones who last. BaZi has a vocabulary for both. Fate Hall's friendship reading compares two birth charts for how you connect, how you spend time together, and how easily you make up after a falling-out.
How you connect: the Day Masters
The quickest picture of a friendship is the link between your two Day Masters. Friends who share an element tend to have the same instincts and pace — the friend who "just gets it". When one element feeds the other, the friendship has a giver and a receiver: one of you plans the fun or offers comfort, the other relaxes into it. When one element controls the other, the friendship is more bracing: one of you tells the other hard truths.
| Their Day Master is your… | Score | What it suggests |
|---|---|---|
| Peer starsFriend (比肩) · Rob Wealth (劫財) Same element as yours | 84 | A friend who gets you without words. Similar tastes and pace make it easy — just avoid competing for the same things. |
| Output starsEating God (食神) · Hurting Officer (傷官) Your element generates theirs | 80 | You are the one who looks after them and brings the fun; they relax around you. Let yourself be on the receiving end now and then. |
| Wealth starsIndirect Wealth (偏財) · Direct Wealth (正財) Your element controls theirs | 64 | You are the one who makes the plans. That is convenient, but ask what they want too if you want it to last. |
| Officer starsSeven Killings (七殺) · Direct Officer (正官) Their element controls yours | 62 | A friend who tells you hard truths. Uncomfortable at times, but a valuable friend who keeps you straight. |
| Resource starsIndirect Resource (偏印) · Direct Resource (正印) Their element generates yours | 80 | A friend who looks after and comforts you — the first person you think of in hard times. Tell them you are grateful. |
Notice that the patterns where one element controls the other score lower here than in the business partner reading. Between friends nobody is supposed to be in charge, so a dynamic where one person steers or corrects the other needs more care to stay balanced.
Inner feelings, hanging out and a lasting bond
The branches of the three main pillars add depth:
| Area (read from) | When it scores high | When it scores low |
|---|---|---|
| How you connectWhich Ten God their Day Master is to you (see the table above); +6 when your two Day Masters form a Stem Combination | Your roles divide naturally. | Agreeing roles out loud will cut down on friction. |
| Inner feelingsYour Day branch × their Day branch | Your inner feelings line up, so trust comes easily. | Your inner feelings easily cross. Talk about any hurt the same day. |
| Hanging outYour Month branch × their Month branch | Your daily and working rhythms match well. | Your daily rhythms differ. Agree in advance how you will keep in touch, meet and make plans. |
| Lasting bondYour Year branch × their Year branch | Your backgrounds and values fit well. | You grew up differently. Ask about each other's family ways first. |
| Filling each other's gapsElements that one of you lacks and the other has | Each of you supplies an element the other lacks, so together you are more balanced. | Your elements overlap. It is fine to get help from someone else for what you both lack. |
| Making up after a fightClashes, Yuan Jin and punishments between your year, month and day branches | Even when you clash, you make up quickly. | With clashes, Yuan Jin or punishments in the chart, friction may be frequent. Sleep on big decisions before making them. |
- Inner feelings come from the Day branches. Harmony here is the friend you can tell anything; a clash is the friend you love but sometimes misread.
- Hanging out comes from the Month branches, which describe daily rhythm. Different month branches often just mean one of you is a night owl and the other an early riser.
- A lasting bond comes from the Year branches — the shared ground of background and generation. Friends whose year branches combine tend to slip back into easy friendship even after years apart.
- Making up after a fight is scored down for clashes, Yuan Jin and punishments, and up when one Day Master feeds the other.
Same element, same problem?
Friends who share an element score highest on connection, but classical texts add a note of caution: two people of the same element want the same things. Between friends that is mostly harmless, until you both want the same job, the same flat or the same person. If your result shows a Peer (same element) link, the advice is simple — notice when you start competing, and say so out loud before it festers.
Common questions
My best friend and I have a low score. Does that mean anything? It means your charts are different, and that the friendship has probably already worked through the differences the score describes. Many readers find the "watch out" note describes an old argument rather than a future one.
Is friendship compatibility the same as animal-sign compatibility? No. Animal signs (the year branch) are one of six areas here. Your animal-sign and zodiac match are shown separately for fun, but the score uses the whole comparison.
Can I check a group of friends? The reading compares two people at a time. Try each pair; groups often hold together around the person who harmonizes with everyone.
