Before you sign a partnership agreement, you check the numbers, the market and each other's track record. BaZi adds one more angle: how your two charts divide the work, how much you trust each other at heart, and whether you see money the same way. This guide explains what Fate Hall's business partner reading looks at and how to use it.
Roles: what their Day Master is to you
Partnerships go wrong less often over strategy than over roles — who decides, who executes, who answers for the money. In BaZi the first clue is the link between the two Day Masters. If their element feeds yours, they tend to back you with capital, contacts or experience. If yours feeds theirs, you are the one producing ideas and work that they carry forward. If one element controls the other, one of you naturally holds the reins.
| Their Day Master is your… | Score | What it suggests |
|---|---|---|
| Peer starsFriend (比肩) · Rob Wealth (劫財) Same element as yours | 68 | Equal partners. Together you push hard, but put shares and decision rights in writing from day one (traditionally, Peer stars are the energy that splits wealth). |
| Output starsEating God (食神) · Hurting Officer (傷官) Your element generates theirs | 78 | You produce the plans and the work, and they take them further. You build up front while they roll it out — a natural split. |
| Wealth starsIndirect Wealth (偏財) · Direct Wealth (正財) Your element controls theirs | 76 | You tend to hold operations and the numbers. You turn their skills into results — just make sure their share is clearly recognised. |
| Officer starsSeven Killings (七殺) · Direct Officer (正官) Their element controls yours | 72 | They take on standards and oversight and keep you in check. The structure is reassuring, though you may feel boxed in. |
| Resource starsIndirect Resource (偏印) · Direct Resource (正印) Their element generates yours | 82 | They back you with money, contacts or experience. Because they are easy to lean on, be clear about the responsibilities that are yours. |
The scores are deliberately close together. Every pattern can work; what differs is the agreement you need. A Resource partner is easy to lean on, so be explicit about your own responsibilities. An Officer partner brings discipline, so agree early how much room each of you has.
The Rob Wealth warning
Classical texts are wary of one pairing in particular. When the other person's Day Master is the same element as yours but of the opposite polarity, they are your Rob Wealth star (劫財). As the name suggests, Rob Wealth is the energy that competes for the same resources, and old manuals warn that partnerships under this star tend to split the money as easily as they make it. Read in modern terms, it is simply advice to put shares, salaries and exit terms in writing on day one — sensible for every partnership, essential for this one.
Trust, working style and money
The other five areas come from the branches and the balance of elements:
| Area (read from) | When it scores high | When it scores low |
|---|---|---|
| Division of rolesWhich Ten God their Day Master is to you (see the table above); +6 when your two Day Masters form a Stem Combination | Your roles divide naturally. | Agreeing roles out loud will cut down on friction. |
| TrustYour Day branch × their Day branch | Your inner feelings line up, so trust comes easily. | Your inner feelings easily cross. Talk about any hurt the same day. |
| Working styleYour Month branch × their Month branch | Your daily and working rhythms match well. | Your daily rhythms differ. Agree in advance how you will keep in touch, meet and make plans. |
| Money senseHow much of each person’s Wealth element (the one the Day Master controls) the other person carries | Your money instincts complement each other. | Your money instincts differ. Put shares, costs and settlement rules in writing from the start. |
| Filling each other's gapsElements that one of you lacks and the other has | Each of you supplies an element the other lacks, so together you are more balanced. | Your elements overlap. It is fine to get help from someone else for what you both lack. |
| Handling conflictClashes, Yuan Jin and punishments between your year, month and day branches | Even when you clash, you make up quickly. | With clashes, Yuan Jin or punishments in the chart, friction may be frequent. Sleep on big decisions before making them. |
- Trust comes from the Day branches, the most private layer of each chart. A Six Harmony here is the classic sign of partners who can speak frankly.
- Working style comes from the Month branches, the social layer that governs routine and teamwork. A clash here often shows up as different hours, different pace or different ideas about meetings.
- Money sense looks at each person's Wealth element — the element their Day Master controls — and how much of it the other person carries. Partners who carry each other's Wealth element tend to recognise opportunities the other would miss.
- Filling each other's gaps counts the elements one of you lacks and the other has. Complementary charts often mean complementary skills.
- Handling conflict subtracts for clashes, Yuan Jin and punishments between your branches.
Using the reading well
Use the two notes at the end of your result — the strongest area and the one to watch — as an agenda for a frank conversation before you commit. If "money sense" is the weak spot, write down how profits, costs and losses are shared. If "working style" is weak, agree how you will communicate and decide. A BaZi reading is no substitute for due diligence, a lawyer or an accountant; it is a way of noticing the questions worth asking.
Common questions
We have a low score. Should we not go into business together? A low score points to friction, not failure. Plenty of strong partnerships are between very different people; they just need clearer rules. Treat the weakest area as the first thing to put on paper.
Can I check a partnership of three people? The reading compares two charts at a time. For three partners, check each pair; the pair with the most clashes is usually where agreements need the most care.
Do I need my partner's birth time? No. The year, month and day pillars and the Day Master only need a birth date.
